East Capital China Environmental joins the Luxembourg Green Exchange
East Capital, the specialist emerging and frontier markets asset manager, is pleased to announce that the East Capital China Environmental Fund has been accepted on the Luxembourg Green Exchange (LGX).
LGX was launched by the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE) in 2016. It is a platform exclusively dedicated to sustainable financial instruments, including ESG, green and social funds. To be displayed on LGX, a green fund must have a recognised fund label, confirming it invests its assets in sectors and activities that benefit the environment, by incorporating specific investment selection strategies into investment decisions and processes.
In 2016, East Capital China Environmental was awarded the LuxFLAG Climate Finance Label, one of the LGX accredited labels. LGX also ensures that the labelled funds displayed on the platform abide by the highest standards of transparency on investment policies thus ensuring investors get a detailed picture of the fund’s responsible investing strategy and the reporting thereon.
Karine Hirn, Partner of East Capital, based in Hong Kong, says, “Our China environmental fund has exposure to companies that contribute to providing solutions to the environmental challenges in China and globally. We are delighted to see our fund displayed on LGX; it is a reference platform which sends a strong message to investors that our fund is entirely about investing into green companies”.
Julie Becker, Member of the Executive Committee at LuxSE, says, “The value of our model is that LGX focuses on transparency, allowing investors to get all the information they need to make informed decisions. At the same time, fund promoters benefit from higher visibility, allowing them to diversify their investor portfolio and communicate about their sustainable investment strategy. We are pleased to welcome East Capital to LGX.”
East Capital’s China environmental strategy seeks to capture the favourable investment backdrop that the environmental challenges offer in China and it invests in issuers whose products, services, technologies and infrastructure bring sustainable development solutions to these challenges. The investment universe, which consists of onshore (A-shares) and offshore China equities, includes sectors such as renewable energy, clean technologies and energy efficiency, waste management and recycling, and new energy vehicles.
The fund, a Luxemburg domiciled UCITS vehicle, was launched in 2007 and in early 2015 was the first fund to receive approval to invest up to 100% of its portfolio in A-shares via the Stock Connect program.
